SATURDAY MARCH 11 – FOLLOW THE BUSKERS TRAIL THROUGH MOSS VALE AND VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE BUSKERS!
SUNDAY MARCH 12 – LEIGHTON GARDENS IS THE PLACE TO BE FOR A FULL DAY OF ENTERTAINMENT AS THE BUSKERS BATTLE IT OUT FOR THE BIG BUCKS!
Starting at McDonalds Moss Vale, then to The Vale Café at the top of Argyle Street, winding down the main street and into Kirkham and Clarence Streets and finishing off at IGA and Photo and Finish, the Buskers Trail on Saturday March 11 will have Moss Vale buzzing with music from the Buskers Battle finalists. The standard is high with lots of local talent showcased together with finalists from as far away as Newcastle.
They’ll be playing to win your votes and put them in the running for the $2000 first prize in the Peoples Choice award. So spoil yourself. Start your day whistling and tapping your way through Mossy and support some great musicians along the way.
Then on Sunday March 12 Leighton Gardens will provide the backdrop for an entertainment extravaganza. Settle in for a full day of fabulous music, great local wine, cider and craft beers, the scrummiest of food including slow pulled pork and beef brisket brioche rolls, gourmet hot dogs, natural pancakes, delicious lunch boxes, home-made treats and hand-crafted salts, sauces and rubs to take home for the pantry. Sit back on the grass and watch the Battle unfold.
Our MC Nick Rheinberger from ABC Radio Illawarra will MC the Battle and give you a rundown on each performer before they take to the stage. Our 16 finalists will be judged by Aria-award winner Margaret Urlich, 2ST’s Graeme Day and Mark Callaghan from Ganga Jang. They’ll be handing out more than $7,000 in prizes including the Peoples Choice first prize of $2000. Votes in the Peoples Choice will be tallied from both the Buskers Trail on Saturday and all the votes received in Leighton Gardens on Sunday. Come down and support them and be treated to some first class performances.
The Battle kicks off at 10.45am with a couple of songs from last year’s winner Angus Murray, and the music goes right through to 3pm. Last year’s crowd favourite, the Hot Potato Band will be back at lunchtime to take their own brand of dynamic street music to the crowd in Leighton Gardens.
Power 94.9FM will be set up between 10am and 1pm for a live broadcast and Southern Highlands News will be roving through the crowd to capture vox pops on the day.
‘What a fantastic weekend of free entertainment we’ll be delivering to Moss Vale,” says Brigid Kennedy, President of Moss Vale and Rural Chamber of Commerce. “This event is all about bringing community together and showing off our incredible offering of retailers, businesses and some of the finest food and wine products from the region. And it’s all about providing a platform for the performers and their incredible diversity of music too,” she says.
The event could not have been staged without the incredible support of local business with McDonalds Moss Vale leading the charge again as the gold sponsor of the Battle for the second year in a row.
